
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 15

Urging the Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Highways
to expedite the construction upgrade of I-64 from the Kentucky
- West Virginia State line at Exit 1 to Exit 20 at
Barboursville to prevent further accidents and needless loss
of life.

Whereas, There have been an unusually high number of
cross-median accidents on I-64 between Exits 1 and 20, which have
resulted in thirteen fatalities in the last thirty-six months; and

Whereas, The heavy traffic flows through the Huntington -
Barboursville region, as well as the high number of accidents and
fatalities on this stretch of highway, demonstrate the need for a
construction upgrade of I-64 from four to six lanes between Exits
1 and 20; and

Whereas, The heavy traffic flows through the Huntington -

fatalities on this stretch of highway, also demonstrate the need for a construction upgrade of I-64 which includes the
implementation of appropriate safety barriers, bridge modifications
and the lowering of the legal speed limit between Exits 1 and 20;
therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of
Highways is hereby urged to expedite the construction upgrade of
I-64 from the Kentucky - West Virginia State line at Exit 1 to Exit
20 at Barboursville to prevent further accidents and needless loss
of life; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this concurrent resolution to the
Governor, the Secretary of Transportation and the Commissioner of
the Division of Highways.
